Caulking Crew at Work

“Caulking Crew at Work” black and white scrimshaw on ancient walrus tusk ivory artifact by the late Salman Rashidi. Caulking and replacing copper plates was necessary for working whalers. Crews had to be experienced as the owners wanted their vessels working as quickly as possible. Nice work by Rashidi on this artifact which was used both as an ice axe and fire starter hundreds of years ago. From the collection of one of our clients who is no longer with us. Nice piece.
