Mermaid on the Beach
“Mermaid on the Beach” sepia toned scrimshaw on ancient walrus tusk ivory artifact by Barbara Cullen. Stunning mermaid is taking a break on the beach as the tide gently rolls in. Now and then even a mermaid has to have a beach day. Professionally done by well respected scrimshander, Cullen. Ivory was used as an ice axe hundreds of years ago and spent some time on the beach as the incoming waves have gently removed some of the outer layers resulting in the smooth appearance. Nice how the scrimshander used the sepia tones to match to natural color in the ivory. This is from the collection of one of our clients who is no longer with us.
