Race to the Bottom

“Race to the Bottom” black and white scrimshaw on ancient walrus tusk ivory by Jerry Dupont. Interesting piece of walrus ivory, just the curved shard. Most would discard this for scrimshaw, but not Dupont. Although it is difficult to work such an extremely curved piece successfully, Dupont has nailed it perfectly. The two humpbacks lend themselves naturally to the ivory’s shape. A first rate stand completes the picture. Nice.
