Rainforest Leopard

“Rainforest Leopard” color scrimshaw on ancient walrus tusk ivory artifact by Gary Dorning. Perfect example of why most people consider Dorning to be the best wildlife scrimshander of his era. His work had the depth and clarity of a first rate wildlife photo as can be seen here. The mood of a hidden pool of water in the deep recess of some jungle with the ominous roots and shadowy trees in the background is masterful. Only Dorning could pull this off so effectively. By the way, this is a huge artifact weighing in at an impressive 2 lbs., 10 oz.! Not much of this around today. Dorning created this in the mid 1980s and it is from a client who is no longer with us. This would easily be valued at $6000.00 or more today. Excellent opportunity to add a first class Dorning to your collection at 19980s prices.
