Wooly Mammoth Family

“Wooly Mammoth Family” black and white scrimshaw on ancient walrus tusk ivory artifact by Charles W. Conner. Lumbering mammoths make their way across a rocky outcrop. Note the young mammoth following. This was not in the far north as there is no snow or ice. Interesting artifact used as an ice axe hundreds of years ago. At some point it was in the water and rolled around grinding off much of the outer enamel. However, enough remained on the front to be used for this fascinating scene. From the collection of one of our clients who is no longer with us. Nicely done work here.
