Caulkers on the Sunbeam

“Caulkers on the Sunbeam” black and white scrimshaw on large sperm whale’s tooth by Gerry Dupont. Caulkers and painters work on the whaler, Sunbeam, just returned from a long whaling voyage. Award winning scrimshander, Dupont, excels in such scenes. His attention to detail is outstanding as can be see in the closeup photos. The caption on the tooth reads as follows: “Floats provide a convenient place for painters and caulkers to work on the topsides of the whaling bark Sunbeam.” Large tooth weighs over one pound, 484 grams to be exact. Tasteful stand completes the picture.
