Whaler and Sperm Whales

“Whaler and Sperm Whales” black and white scrimshaw on huge bull sperm whale’s tooth by Ray Peters. This one took months to complete. Peters had a vision and kept working until it was done to perfection. Huge amount of stipple work by Peters in this one, unusual for him, but it works perfectly. Really like the way the rope work at the top and bottom ties everything together.  Note the rounded top of the tooth indicating the long age of the whale. The tooth itself weighs 466 grams, over one pound! Not many this size around today. Quite rare, indeed. This would be a centerpiece of any serious nautical scrimshaw collection.
