Charles W. Morgan Working

Ray Peters Scrimshaw - Charles W. Morgan Working

“Charles W. Morgan Working” black and white scrimshaw on ancient mammoth tusk ivory bark by Ray  Peters. Heavy seas cause the seaman in the crow’s nest concern. Imagine how he sways from side to side in weather such as this. Nice touch by Peters. The detail on the deck of the Morgan is extremely well done. Veteran scrimshander, Peters, knows his subject matter quite well.

Plowing Through the Seas

Karen Petersen Scrimshaw - Plowing Through the Sea

“Plowing Through the Seas” black and white scrimshaw on sperm whale’s tooth by Karen Petersen. Full rigged ship plows through heavy seas, sending spray along her sides. Excellent stipple work by Petersen on this one. She was known for her wildlife scrimshaw in color, so this is a rare piece, indeed. Probably was done in the early to mid 1980s.  From the collection of one of our clients who is no longer with us. Won’t see one like this again.

Notice:
This scrimshaw is done on a sperm whale’s tooth. Federal legislation bans the interstate shipment of whale ivory. It can only be shipped intrastate (within the state). All of our whale ivory is located with our associate in the state of Florida. It can be purchased directly from our website and shipped only to an address within the state of Florida. If one has a relative, trusted friend or business associate within the state of Florida, we can ship to that specified address in order to comply with Federal legislation. The scrimshaw can then be forwarded to you and everyone complies with the law. Any questions, email or call us.
