Antique Scrimshaw Ship

“Antique Scrimshaw Ship ” from the collection of one of our clients who is no longer with us created by talented unknown artist. Nice patina on this one. Collector said that it may date between1850 to 1880. It has interesting pin pricks on the rigging and masts. Tip has a small broken piece. The collector also made a stand for the piece, which needs a little work. All in all a well done piece.

This scrimshaw is done on a sperm whale’s tooth. Federal legislation bans the interstate shipment of whale ivory. It can only be shipped intrastate (within the state).
