“Brigantine Galilee” black and white scrimshaw on ancient walrus tooth ivory by Gerry Dupont. The stern of the Galilee can be seen at the San Francisco maritime museum. Built by Matthew Turner, she was famous as a trading ship between San Francisco and Tahiti. She ended up in Sausalito’s houseboat community and the body is still sunk in the mud of Richardson’s Bay.
