Two Ladies Antique Scrimshaw

$2,650.00

“Two Ladies Antique Scrimshaw” this is from the collection of one of our clients who is no longer with us. Dates from around 1850. Probably a Tabua collected by whaler in the South Pacific. It is from the collection of Nina Heller and was featured in her book on scrimshaw. Beautiful patina and weighs 453 grams! Collector made the stand for it. Heller’s description: Antique scrimshaw tooth engraved on each side with an attractive full figure lady. On the obverse, the lady wars a decolette dress and has two flowers in her hair. Her right arm is across her waist and she holds a handkerchief in her hand. With her left elbow bent that hand is at her bosom. There is a chip at the hemline of her skirt. The lady on the reverse wears a  bonnet and a shawl-collared dress. A hole is drilled through the tip of the tooth, and there are two age cracks.
