Elegant Giraffe

Gary Williams Scrimshaw - Elegant Giraffe

“Elegant Giraffe” color scrimshaw on pre-ban African Ivory tip by Gary Williams. Inspired choice of subject matter for this shape of ivory. Nice effect of leaving the background  sky area unworked so one’s attention is drawn to the giraffe, not elsewhere. Note the subtle shading from left to right of the sun’s rays. Nice touch. This stand is a work of art i n itself with the precision inlay of  the ancient walrus tusk ivory. Very well done piece.

Notice:

Since the passage of the CITIES Treaty in 1973, there has been no African ivory brought into the U.S. However, ivory that was in the U.S. prior to 1973 can be legally sold and shipped within the U.S. However, new legislation taking effect in 2016 restricts pre-ban African Ivory from being shipped interstate. It can only legally be shipped intrastate, (within the state). All of our pre-ban ivory is located with our associate in the state of Florida. It can be purchased directly from our website and shipped only to an address within the state of Florida. If one has a relative, trusted friend or business associate within the state of Florida, we can ship to that specified address in order to comply with the new Federal legislation. The scrimshaw can then be forwarded it to you and everyone complies with the law. Any questions email or call us.

25 JUNE 1876

Gary Williams Scrimshaw - 25 JUNE 1876

“25 JUNE 1876” color scrimshaw on pre-ban African Ivory by Gary Williams. Talented scrimshander, Williams, really excels in his ability to capture the strength and spirit of his subjects in his outstanding portraits. The use of the pictorial depiction of the battle in the background of Sitting Bull is brilliant. The sepia tones blend into the beige jadket of Sitting Bull, bringing everything together in a seamless manner. On the reverse side, Custer has that focused, almost maniacal, stare. It seems that he senses he is going to his doom, but his arrogance always overrode his better judgement. Love the map and the “7” in the background. For those who are interested  in the Battle of the Greasy Grass, commonly known as the Battle of the Little Bighorn, this one is a must. From the collection of one of our clients who is no longer with us.

Kootenai

Gary Williams Scrimshaw - Kootenai

“Kootenai” color scrimshaw on ancient mammoth tusk ivory by Gary Williams. Really like the way the scrimshander has used the natural color in the outer bark of the mammoth ivory to compliment the tones and shades in the portrait, especially in the hat. A famous Canadian pioneer who is virtually unknown here in the U.S. His career  in Canada began in BC in 1862 during the Cariboo gold rush. He later became a BC policeman, Pony Express  rider, buffalo hunter Head Scout for the Rocky Mountain Rangers during the 1885 Riel rebellion and a conservationist who fought  to establish Waterton Lakes National Par. If Kootenai had lived in the US he would be as familiar as Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone.

Dubious

Gary Williams Scrimshaw - Dubious

“Dubious” color scrimshaw on ancient walrus tusk ivory by Gary Williams. Strong portrait of a mountain man who has just heard a tall tale from a fellow trapper. Apparently, he has considerable doubts about the veracity of the tale. Scrimshander Williams is a master at creating compelling portraits depicting a variety of characters. Each is unique and unforgettable. Very well done by one of the best working today.

Custom Scrimshaw Knife

Gary Williams Scrimshaw - Custom Scrimshaw Knife

‘Custom Scrimshaw Knife’ featuring the scrimshaw of Gary Williams, knifemaker Dennis Friedly and damascus by Eggerling done on ancient walrus tusk ivory. This one of a kind hunter by Friedly is impeccable. The blade by Eggerling is amazing “Cornstalk Damascus Steel”. Study the pattern closely as you may never see such a pattern again. Williams’s scrimshaw is beyond reproach, as usual. This is for the serious knife and/or scrimshaw collector. A true prize.
