“Whalers Drying Sails” black and white scrimshaw on pre-ban African Ivory by Gerry Dupont. Very large cut of pre-ban ivory for this impressive work by Dupont. The whiteness of the ivory is perfect for Dupont’s signature black and white style. The piece has the title inlaid into the rosewood stand “Drying Sails”. Scrimshander, Dupont, has added this description on the back of the ivory slab “Two whalers, just arrived, dry their sails at a New Bedford wharf”. Really like the addition of the townspeople on the wharf, gawking at the whalers. Dupont created this in 2008 and it is from the collection of one of our clients who is no longer with us. Ivory of this size had to come from a very large tusk that probably weighed at least 65 to 80 pounds. Hard to find ivory like this in the U.S. today. Excellent addition to any scrimshaw collection.

“Bark Bertha at New Bedford” black and white scrimshaw on large slab of pre-ban African Ivory by Gerry Dupont. Amazing amount of tight work by Dupont. Note the detail on the building “Humphrey’s Cold Storage” as well as the people standing on the wharf. The bark is drying sails after returning from a long voyage. The white of the ivory is absolutely perfect for Dupont’s signature style black and white scrimshaw. This very large slab of ivory probably came from a tusk in the 65 to 80 pound range. No ivory of that size around today. This is from the collection of one of our clients who is no longer with us and was created by Dupont in 2009. Excellent opportunity to add a first class showpiece to one’s collection at 2009 prices.

“Mounting an Iron” black and white scrimshaw on ancient mammoth tusk ivory by Gerry Dupont. Unusual subject matter for Dupont, who does dock scenes and whaling scenes. However, this was created in 2006 before he did too many docks, etc., which makes it quite collectible to get something from award winning scrimshander in 2006. Read the description which is on the underside of the stand and explains everything that is taking place. Really like this one. Excellent opportunity to add a vintage Dupont to one’s collection at 2006 prices. From the collection of one of our clients who is no longer with us and he also made the stand.
“Sperm Whale at Rest” black and white srimshaw on ancient walrus tooth ivory be Gerry Dupont. Sperm whale is taking a nap all alone. Fine composition by award winning scrimshander, Dupont. Nice stand completes the picture.
“Brigatine on Rare Artifact” Black and white scrimshaw on rare ancient walrus tooth artifact by Gerry Dupont. This walrus tooth was used as part of a snare to capture shore birds. Several were strung together, twrilled and thrown at the shore bird. That explains the tiny hole drilled in the top of the tooth. Do not see many of these around.
“Whaler at Sea” Black and white scrimshaw on ancient walrus tooth ivory by Gerry Dupont. Clean work by well known scrimshander, Dupont. Nicely mounted, this would make a fine addition to any scrimshaw collection.
“Blue Whale Diving” black and white scrimshaw on ancient walrus tooth ivory by Gerry Dupont. Excellent composition by Dupont. The huge whale fits perfectly into the shape of the tooth. The heart of a blue whale is the size of a VW bug.
“Bowhead Whale” black and white scrimshaw on ancient walrus tusk ivory by veteran scrimshander, Gerry Dupont. Excellent choice of subject matter for this horizontal tooth. Dupont always does first rate work.
“Three Master at Sea” black and white scrimshaw on ancient mammoth ivory bark by Gerry Dupont. Highly detailed work by award winning scrimshander, Dupont. Really like the way he has used the entire working surface of this nice piece. of mammoth ivory. Excellent work at a fine price as well.
