Moose antler bighorn sheep carving created by talented unknown carver. Very large piece of antler. Note how the piece is framed by the outer surface of the antler. Nicely done. Back side has same amount of detail as the front side.
The material used for this fine carving is North American moose antler. This antler is collected from the forests of North America, all across Siberia to Scandinavia. The male of this species (Alces alces) grows and sheds a new pair of massive antlers every year. It is the largest of the deer family and its numbers are stable and thriving. Therefore, there are no restrictions on trade in this antler. It is a beautiful, solid, renewable carving material.
